Here's the skinny. Two years ago I traveled to Kenya to teach anti-violence and HIV/AIDS prevention for my master's degree. It changed my life forever. I fell in love with Africa--its people, its land, its essence. There is something magical about that place. What became increasingly apparent to me upon my return to the US is that change on a small scale is possible. You don't have to change the world--the impact that a small group of people can have on a community is generally undervalued. Winnie, the founder of Dolphin Anti-Rape and AIDS Control Outreach, and her wingman, Duncan, reach more than 20,000 students each year. They travel from school to school, teaching young girls and boys how to protect themselves against violence and HIV. They are changing the way communities in Kenya and around the world look at violence against women and the prevention of AIDS. They are revolutionaries. Giving them 20% of all my sales is the least I could do. Check the blog here. |
